Hand printed postcards from around the globe will be on show demonstrating the diversity of the art of printmaking. All works for sale by silent auction.

Mackay, Queensland (July 7, 2015)-Mackay residents are invite to attend the Printbank Mackay International Postcard Swap Exhibition and Silent Auction. Several months ago, Printbank Mackay sent out a request to printmakers across the globe, asking for postcard sized, handmade prints to be swapped with other artists. By the end of May their postbox was flooded, with over 40 printmakers responding. Each person sent three identical prints and one work from each artist will be on display at the Town Hall on Sydney Street. Printbank Mackay is a local artists group that has been active in Mackay for over 12 years. This project offered the possibility for the groups members to make connections with other artists around Australia and the world. Each participant will receive the artworks of two others as well as contact details, in hopes that friendships can be formed. The exhibition also enables Printbank to offer a wide variety of printmaking styles to the wider community. “The diversity of the collection is really remarkable” said Traci Lietzke, Printbank member, “There are so many forms and styles of printmaking represented, it's a great opportunity for the whole community to discover the art form.” During the exhibition members of the public can stop by the Town Hall to see printmaking demonstrations as well as make a postcard of their own. The exhibition will be on display from Monday July 13 until Sunday July 19 from noon to 6pm, with the silent auction special event on Friday 17 July starting at 6:30pm, with refreshments provided. All funds made from the auction will fund this and future Printbank projects. The exhibition is part of the Artspace Mackay Community Exhibition Program.
