YOUR SAY: Nurses' expertise essential and needs to be valued

THE proposal to replace fully registered nurses in nursing homes with lesser trained assistants in nursing to save money is a mistake.

Our elderly deserve better.

As a doctor who visits nursing homes we rely heavily on well trained experienced nurses to do assessments and relay vital information regarding the resident. This is vital.

Nurses working in the elderly sector are the lowest paid in their profession.

They are not doing it for the money, more because they care about the elderly residents.

What will happen is frail scared elderly residents will be shipped off to overstretched emergency departments for assessment .

This is no way to treat our elderly and will cost more as well.
