YOUR SAY: Build a race track on the Coast, stop the hoons

BUILD a race track, let drivers drift legally.

That was the call from Sunshine Coast Daily readers over claims hooning was rife near the Coolum Industrial Estate.

By day, the Quanda Rd industrial estate is a hive of productive business activity, but by night, it is a hoons' paradise.

The industrial area west of Coolum has become a popular spot for drivers wanting to test their vehicles beyond legal limits.

Photos supplied to the Daily show evidence of burn outs and drag races.

A source who owns premises in the estate said the situation was dangerous for employees who worked at some businesses after hours.

He said he was surprised at what the hoons were able to get away with given the local police station was only 2km away.

In the Daily's online poll, almost half of respondents clicked the option "they're no hurting anyone, give them a break".

The story prompted calls for a legal race track on the Sunshine Coast.

Here is a snapshot of your online debate.

Scott Anderson: Perhaps we need a track on the coast, somewhere that these people can go to and race their cars?

Craig Macintyre: At least it's in the industrial estate and not residential areas with kids playing.

Donald Carrieres: The council builds a skate park for the kids, build a race track for these big kids and charge them to use the track.

Josip Katic: To all the drop kicks on here saying crush cars, take away licenses,or jail terms.....Hoon laws have been in place and exercised for years now.......hmm funny it's all still going on (sarcasm) just in case you're too slow to work it out. Wake up! Prohibition of any kind has NEVER worked.

Bryan Godsall: There is plenty of empty land out past Bli Bli... Build a dedicated facility for off street drags (that is affordable). Or don't, and continue to whine about this sort of thing.
