World's largest surfing event also promotes the culture
THE Noosa Festival of Surfing - the world's largest surfing event by competitor numbers - returns for eight days of pure stoke from March 4-11.
The festival at Noosa Main Beach has events for grommets to grandpas, dogs and bodysurfers, plus specialty and pro divisions.
Entries are open and organisers expect to beat the 2016 competitor numbers which saw more than 800 entries from more than 20 countries.
Age divisions are from under 15 to over 70.
The 11 specialty events include nose-riding, bodysurfing, finless and the popular Surfing Dog Spectacular.
The Beach Bar, right on the sand at First Point, has nightly entertainment, live music, film screenings and talks - as well as those beautiful sunset views over Laguna Bay.
