Woman transforms $14 Kmart doona into amazing dress
NATALIE Zielke is the Queen of style hacks.
The Lockyer Valley woman has cleverly transformed three Kmart doonas into one-of-a-kind glamorous race dresses.
Her most recent creation has gone viral for all the right reasons.
She created a beautiful dress from a spotty $14 Kmart doona to wear to Magic Millions at the Gold Coast.
Ms Zielke shared her creation on the popular Kmart Hacks Facebook page.
The photo quickly gained thousands of likes and hundreds of comments.
She received praise for her creativity, even inspiring others to do the same.
"A lot of people couldn't believe it was a doona cover and now I am getting people messaging me saying they are going to give it a go as well," she said.
"It was just crazy how the post blew up, I didn't think it would be so popular but I was getting flooded with notifications."
Ms Zielke said the idea started one day when she was shopping in Kmart and saw a doona with a cool pattern.
"It is a great way to save money on fabric because it is cheap and reversible," she said.
"I am constantly on the lookout now. I like being crafty and I am a milliner as well. I make my own race hats.
"I love race days and dressing up is all part of the fun."
Ms Zielke often attends Weetwood and Melbourne Cup days at Clifford Park Racecourse, even wearing one of her creations to last year's event.
She entered Fashions on the Field wearing her zigzag doona dress and was named runner-up.
Ms Zielke is attending this year's Weetwood with her husband and plans to design and wear another of her unique creations.
