Winter energy costs relief in sight with one-off payment
HELP for pensioners will arrive before June 30 with the Federal Treasurer Scott Morrison announcing yesterday that one-off cash payment will be made to help with winter energy bills.
"We understand that families, households, individuals are under a lot of stress because they just haven't seen their wages going up," the treasurer told Nine Network political editor Laurie Oakes today during their interview yesterday.
"It's there to support, going into this winter electricity prices, that was the arrangement, that will all be paid before June 30 this year," Mr Morrison said.
The payments will be made to aged pensioners, disability support pensioners, single parenting payment recipients and veterans and their partners.
Singles will receive $75 and couples will get $125.
This payment will help to counter the July onwards significant electricity price hikes expected for households on the eastern seaboard.
