Why Ultiqa Shearwater took out top tourism gong

Q&A with Gavin Henry, Ultiqa Shearwater Resort Manager

What can you tell us about Shearwater?

ULTIQA started in Australia in 2001.

We were originally a timeshare company but have spread out with the Ultiqa brand and since 2010 acquired a number of properties including Shearwater Resort, which won the Sunshine Coast Tourism Accommodation Award - Classic.

The resort is on Edmund St, a stone's throw from Kings Beach, Caloundra.

How did the win affect you?

I feel so humbled that we were nominated in the awards, yet alone win an award.

It is so nice to be recognised for all the efforts we put into the growth towards tourism and the local economy as tourism plays a massive part of the Sunshine Coast's business.

The Sunshine Coast Tourism Award 2016 for Classic Accommodation also went to ULTIQA Shearwater Resort. Awards winners were announced at a ceremony at Novotel Twin Waters on Saturday, November 5, 2016.

Win or lose, everybody is a winner just for trying to improve their business to attract more people to visit the Coast.

I think we won because of the passion and dedication that we have, and strive to give the best service that we can.

I would like to thank the chambers on always being there for its members and always offering a helping hand and support.

Why do you think you won?

We have a unique brand in that we offer holidays to normal, everyday guests and to our timeshare market from all over the world.

At Shearwater we make all our guests feel like they're part of our family and we do anything to make their stay as comfortable as possible.

We offer a complimentary breakfast and have great views of the ocean and have fabulous restaurants just beneath us, and you can move from our resort to any other Ultiqa resort.
