BUSKERS BY THE CREEK

MORE than 300 performers will have their hats and suitcases out, busking for reward as they showcase their talents at Winders Park on the banks of Currumbin Creek on the weekend of October 13-14. You will see singer/songwriters, artistic fire, magicians, bands and dancers, as well as enjoy international food and markets. The Battle of the Buskers kicks off activities on Friday, October 12. Bring your change with you! Phone 0421 035 432.

SPRINGTIME EATS

Sunday, October 14 is the final Varsity Lakes Springtime Eats for this five-part series which began on Father's Day. The free community event includes street food trucks, live music and fun for the grandkids at the pretty Varsity Lakes Foreshore Parklands. It's presented by The Design Collective and Councillor Hermann Vorster for Division 11, and runs from 4-8pm.

VILLAGE CRAFT FAIR

Mudgeeraba Uniting Church's annual Village Craft Fair, on October 19-20, features local handmade crafts (including quilts and art), cakes, slices, jams and preserves, plants and free gardening demonstrations. There's also entertainment by local musicians. Food and refreshments are on sale, with the fair running Friday 9am-4pm and Saturday 8.30am-2pm. Phone 0412 119 571.

SONG AND DANCE MEN

Just a Couple of Song and Dance Men celebrates the great song and dance men of Hollywood, and if you are of an age ... which we all are ... that obviously means the likes of Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Bing Crosby, Donald O'Connor and Frank Sinatra - although it took a bit of thought to remember Sinatra dancing rather than just singing. The title comes from the 1975 vinyl by Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby and stars Joe Meldrum and Shay Debney at Twin Towns Showroom at 10.30am on Thursday, October 25. Tickets are from $7.

WE WILL ROCK YOU

Obviously, this is set to the songs of Queen, and it follows the journey of a young man named Galileo, caught up in a future world run by the Globalsoft Corporation where rock music has been destroyed. Directed and choreographed by Clay English, it's on at Spotlight Theatre from Friday October 26-November 9. Tickets are $34. Phone (07) 5539 4255 or go to spotlighttheatre.com.au.

OPEN HOUSE

The doors to the Gold Coast are open between 10am-3pm on Saturday, October 27 for the Gold Coast Open House. Look behind the scenes of 43 of the interesting and architecturally significant buildings from Southport Seaway to Bilinga. This is a free event but you do need to pre-register for guided tours. For details, phone (07) 5582 8244 or go to goldcoastopenhouse.com.au.

DOG GATHERING

At Active Pets - Walk with Me, members of council's animal management team and an animal behaviourist will join dog owners and their pets for a healthy walk at Pizzey Park Skatepark at Miami. They will have tips and advice on dog walking, socialisation, lead aggression and behaviour. It's from 8.30-10am on Sunday, November 4. Phone (07) 5581 7631.

WAR YEARS SONGS

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, Great Songs of the War Years is coming to Twin Towns Showroom at 10.30am on Tuesday, November 6. The concert predominantly features songs from that era, but will also include songs from the Second World War and Vietnam, with special tributes to the Andrew Sisters and Dame Vera Lynn. There is a cast of six, led by tenor Roy Best, Jaz Flowers, soprano Alison Jones and Opera Australia mezzo Caroline Vercoe. Chris McKenna will MC and also share letters home from soldiers, with images projected on the big screen. It's just $7. Phone (07) 5536 2277 or go to twintowns.com.au.

FRENCH FESTIVAL

The Bonjour French Festival is back for its fifth event from November 10-11 at Kurrawa Park, Broadbeach. With a variety of performances on the stage, you will be able to eat your way around the French market, including delicious breads and cheeses, and chill at the French Cellar. Don't forget the outdoor movie night on Saturday at 7pm. The festival runs 4-9pm Saturday and 9am-5pm Sunday.

INTERNATIONAL CRICKET

I'm getting in a little early on this one, because there's a lot of cricket fans going to be going crazy about the first ever international match on the Gold Coast. Metricon Stadium will host the Gillette T20 Australia v South Africa clash on Saturday, November 17, with prices starting from $30 adults up to $75 for Platinum. Gates open 5pm with the main game from 6.20pm. Phone (03) 9653 9999 or go to cricket.com.au/tickets.
