Wet and windy Australia Day predicted for Fraser Coast
FRASER Coast residents should brace themselves for a wet and windy Australia Day, according to the Bureau of Meteorology, with moderate-to-heavy rainfall predicted.
About 100mm of rain is expected to hit the region in the next few days as a result warm monsoon, which is being pushed south by ex-cyclone Oswald.
Bureau forecaster John Gardner said the Fraser Coast region could anticipate a wet Australia Day thanks to the cyclone's movements.
"We are expecting scattered showers today and tomorrow, and then moderate to heavy rain on Saturday," Mr Gardner said.
"Over the next three days the region can expect somewhere between 50mm to 100mm of rainfall."
Mr Gardner said early predictions suggested the wet weather would continue early in to next week, though it was dependant on ex-cyclone Oswald's movements.
"We are also expecting winds of between 20-25 knots over the weekend as well," he said.
"So it's going to be quite wet and windy."
