Weekend walk to end cancer

EVERYONE knows someone who has been affected by cancer at some stage in their life.

This is the motivation for five Roma women taking part in The Weekend to End Women's Cancers on October 25-26 in Brisbane.

Tash O'Shannessy was diagnosed with breast cancer in December.

Her friends have rallied around her and will join her in the walk next weekend.

The women have been training together for the event, which will see them walk 60km over two days.

"It's been a lot of fun for all of us to get together," Ms O'Shannessy said.

Ms O'Shannessy will join other 'Bush Turkey' teammates Laurice Kennedy, Allison Watson, Anita Crawford, Tracey Regan, Dan Dare, Robyn Cahil and Kathryn Gorrie in the walk.

"We have all had family and friends affected," team member Ms Kennedy said.

All funds raised will go to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital and QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute.

"We really want to thank Roma residents and the Comm Hotel who have been putting on raffles and raised $900 for us," Ms Kennedy said.

"Home Hardware also supported us with barbecues and donated all sausages and bread."
