Watch out Fraser Coast, seniors are about to get tech savvy
MARYBOROUGH seniors will be able to connect with the community thanks to government funding for Tech Savvy Seniors sessions.
Member for Maryborough Bruce Saunders said more than $160,000 had been allocated to community organisations across the state to provide support services, including transport, to seniors participating in the Tech Savvy Seniors sessions.
"I am pleased that the Maryborough and District Committee on the Ageing Well Aged Service has been allocated $6,000 to help older residents in Maryborough attend and fully participate in these digital training sessions," Mr Saunders said.
"Developing the confidence and skills to use technology and be part of the digital community and economy has become increasingly important to our seniors.
"Maryborough seniors who complete a Tech Savvy Seniors course will gain basic technology skills, including how to use an iPad, navigate social media, shop online and access government services.
"Tech Savvy Seniors sessions are being held at public libraries and Indigenous Knowledge Centres throughout the State, to help older people to maintain their independence and reduce social isolation which is crucial to their wellbeing."
Upcoming sessions at the Maryborough Library are for the next two Tuesdays May 24th and May 31st at 9:30am.
