Was that an earthquake? 'Shaking lasted 15-20 seconds'

A SUNSHINE Coast resident felt the earth shake in a mysterious occurrence overnight.

Jacque Baxter had just gone to bed in Noosaville when there was "a 'shaking' that lasted for about 15-20 seconds" at 11.50pm on Tuesday.

"(The) bed and room felt as if it was 'moving' - very similar to experience when had last tremors - although possibly not as strong as last time," Jacque said.

"Dogs began barking in (the) street and I heard someone call out so assumed other people in (the) street felt it."

Significant earthquakes were on Tuesday reported in the Pacific islands of Vanuatu and on Monday in the Bismarck Sea off Papua New Guinea, but none have been recorded around the time Jacque felt the earth move.
