Warwick Lion keeps his pride

A LION will keep his pride after being reelected president of Warwick Lions Club.

Con Lo Giudice was reappointed as branch president at the annual changeover lunch at Warwick Golf Club last Sunday, where 55 Southern Downs community members celebrated the induction.

Member for Southern Downs Lawrence Springborg and Southern Downs Mayor Tracy Dobie and husband Colin were among guests from Lions Members from Warwick, Killarney, Stanthorpe, Tenterfield and Thornlands-Point Halloran, and other community groups. 

After lunch Mr Lo Guidice outlined in his annual club report the fundraisers and donations accomplished during the past year,  with a total of $17,795 to support numerous charities, services and events in the Southern Downs.

"On behalf of the Lions Club of Warwick Inc. I would like to thanks the community for their support they gave us during the past Lions year and no doubt they will do support again in years to come," he said. 

"Being re-elected president of this wonderful club, I'm pleased to say that I am so proud of my club members that we worked hard as a team.

"With our barbecue trailer we served the community with many functions we cooperated at the monthly Uber Market and Bunnings sausage sizzle, and at each event fundraiser we nominated a beneficiary to donate to like Cancers Awareness, Leukemia, Angel Flight, RACQ Careflight, Blue Care, Akooramack,  Australian Lions Children Cancer Research Foundation."

President Con added the Motto from Past Lions International President, Jitsuhiro Yamada. 

"Dignity, Harmony ,Humanity" Lions around the world continuing to promote and raise visibility like our club, we have accomplished much this year but there's so much left to do," Mr Lo Giudice said. 

"I hope we'll continue to work for bring Dignity and Harmony with Lions in our community and Humanity around the world to archive the Celebration of the Lions International Centennial 2017 service goals."

A special award, Club Lion of the Year went to Lion Bob Lindenberg, the Treasurer award to Lion Jeff Ferguson, Secretary Award and the James D Richardson Humanitarian award to John Griffith.

Two special award went to guests, Graham Buchner the  Club Lion Citizen Award for work in the community, and the Lions Appreciation award to Charlie and Di Sullivan for their continues support to the Warwick Lions Club.

Mr Lo Giudice said for the coming year two majors project that the Lions Club of Warwick will intend to revive tree planting and name tags on the "The Remembrance Lane" along the north side of Queens Park and a Memorial Sandstone monumental at Mile End Park in memory of past local Lions members, with both projects in discussion with the SDRC park managements.

The new board for the 2016-17 are: President- (Con) Concetto Lo Giudice, 1st Vice president - Jenny Rainbird, 2nd Vice President - Clare Jeffries, Secretary- John Griffith, Treasurer -Jeff Ferguson, Membership Chairperson- Heather Shillings, Directors- Neville Mathews, Gary Clark, Halina Griffith, Cec Watts, Tail Twister - Bob Lester, Lion Tamer - Halina Griffith.
