UPDATE: Excited shoppers cheered as Mayor Gerard O'Connell helped to cut the red, white and blue ribbons to officially open the new Spotlight store in Hervey Bay.

Hundreds of shoppers filed through the doors at 8am.

EARLIER: One of the most anticipated store openings on the Fraser Coast in years is finally here, with homemaker superstore Spotlight opening its doors at 8am on Monday, November 10.

The official ribbon cutting ceremony will happen just before the shop opens, with an opening sale likely to excite customers.

The store will remain open until 9pm.

The grand opening sale will continue until November 17.
