Vintage Seniors Week theme for Nerang Liberty Community

A VINTAGE Extravaganza is taking shape for Seniors Week at Nerang's Liberty Community Connect.

Crafted items on display will be "rustic and dazzling", says community development officer Anita Ryan.

"There will be lots of drapes, lights and vintage furniture," she said.

"The centre will have decorated archways and red carpet for the elderly people to enter the kitchen area, and the table will be set with some vintage displays and a high tea.

"Lunch will also be provided - roast dinner - and bubbly.

"All elderly people have been asked to dress up in their best outfits.

"The day will have an entertainer singing classic old songs, there will be a vintage-style photo booth and vintage furniture."

The display will be open to current clients, carers, their family and friends from August 15-19 from 10am-2pm.

Liberty Connect caters for over-65s needing low care.

A client, Kevin Patterson of Nerang, was recently a participant in the "wearable art class".

His work will be among the "arty crafty" exhibits on display during Seniors Week at 31 Martin St.

"I weave, I do tapestry, looming…," he said.

"My mother was a beautiful knitter."

Kevin has been a client at the centre for about a year.

"It's an outing and gets me talking to people," he said.
