Vegas makes the perfect winter getaway

ALTHOUGH we haven't experienced much winter yet, the cold weather will come. The minute the temperature drops your thoughts will turn to faraway places where the sun shines in blue cloudless skies.

Think Vegas. Guaranteed sunshine and heat - perhaps a little too much heat but there is air-conditioning inside every door, and with so much happening in the fun city you won't be worried about the heat.

Here are just a few reasons to visit Las Vegas right now.

Siegried and Roy (yes, they are still going) now have a Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat where you can get close to the dolphins, even become a trainer for a day.

You couldn't do all the shows in Vegas but here are a few top choices.

Country legend Garth Brooks takes to the stage at the T-Mobile Arena on June 24 and 25.

Gwen Stefani brings her tour to the Arena on August 19 with special guest Eve.

On September 1 Coldplay will bring their dreamy music while Drake will perform on September 11.

Nicole Kidman will be in the house on October 21 when Keith Urban takes to the stage.

At Mandalay Bay's summer Beach Concert Series, you can keep cool by the pool while watching seven-time Grammy winner Ziggy Marley on June 3 and crooner Philip Phillips on June 18.

Then there is the World Wrestling Entertainment, should that be your thing, at T-Mobile Area on June 19, while three UFC 200 title fights will take place on July 9.

There is always so much going on in Vegas, and rest in between partying is essential. Now there is a sanctuary (other than your cool hotel room) at The Park, a new dining-entertainment-gathering space between the New York New York and the Monte Carlo where restaurants are interspersed with winding water walls and giant shade structures - a respite from all the frantic activity.

Although you are in the desert, cool water is always a toe-dip away with so many pools in so many venues.

At Mandalay Bay Beach, you can stretch out on 2700 tonnes of California sand, swim in a wave pool and then chill out in a cabana. At Luxor on Sundays the pool party swings with drink specials, great music and hot guests.

At Delano Beach Club flop into a tree-strung hammock and enjoy complimentary treats all day (frozen grapes anyone?)

All this and we haven't even started on the cocktail scene.

If winter gets you down, head to Vegas and you are certain to feel 10 years younger.
