TWO Liberal senators have warned they will not be bound by a proposed plebiscite on marriage equality.

Senator Eric Abetz  told The Guardian he would need to determine if the vote really was an accurate reflection of the national view and whether the question was stacked.

Senator Cory Bernardi said he would never support same-sex marriage even if the nation approved it in a vote.

The estimated cost of the plebiscite is $150 million.
