Toowoomba retirement facility closes down building

BLUE Care is shutting down part of its Toowoomba aged-care facility.

The decades-old retirement home on Stenner St will lose one of its five buildings, with the Kingswood section closing.

The move will affect a number of employee positions.

A Blue Care spokeswoman said the building was originally built to service low-care patients and was unable to stay in use.

"Regrettably, Blue Care has had to make the difficult decision to close one of the five buildings known as Kingswood at its Toowoomba aged-care facility," she said.

"Blue Care's priority is to ensure all residents receive the highest quality care and support.

"This particular building is no longer fit to accommodate the care and support needs of its residents, as their care needs increase."

Blue Care would work with Kingswood residents and their families to ensure a smooth transition out of the building.

"Blue Care is focused on ensuring any impacts for residents, their families and Blue Care employees are kept to a minimum throughout this process," she said.

"Blue Care has been providing a range of care services to residents for over 50 years and the facility will continue to provide care services to its residents."
