Too hot to shop? Shopping centre aircon taking shoppers

WHILE lots of last minute present buyers will head to shopping centres this week, a local businessman is urging the community to share the love.

Neville O'Sullivan, the owner of Hervey Bay Mensland on the Esplanade, said the warm weather was becoming a deterrent for locals.

"We're finding people are going to the shopping centres because it's too warm on the Esplanade," Mr O'Sullivan said.

While Mr O'Sullivan said online shopping wasn't affecting their personalised business, local support was vital.

He said even though lots of retailers had been forced to shut up shop along the popular stretch, traders were still operating.

Do you think it it important to shop local? Have your say and join the conversation below.

Mr O'Sullivan, who has owned the menswear store for the past 13 years, said it was all about 'sharing the love' this Christmas.

He said 2015 has so far been a tougher year than in previous years during the Christmas trading season.

"We're not the only ones that have been struggling."

Mr O'Sullivan said retailers will only put on more people if they feel confident about the future.

And having local people spend money in the region is what fuels that confidence.
