Theatre company takes on famous Marilyn Monroe film
WILL they or won't they recreate the iconic image of Marilyn Monroe standing over a subway grate with her white dress billowing around her?
That is the question people have been asking when they hear the Toowoomba Repertory Theatre will present the play The Seven Year Itch from now until November 26.
Director Adrian Smith said he had a very simple answer to that question.
"You'll have to come and see the show to find out," he said.
"The play by George Axelrod was written in 1952 and played 1141 shows on Broadway before being adapted to the movie in 1955 starring Tom Ewell, Billy Wilder and Marilyn Monroe in perhaps her most famous role.
"The storyline is set during a hot New York summer in the 1950s and centres around the supposed concept that when a married couple reach their seven year anniversary they get 'itchy feet' and are more likely to have affairs then."
The cast is Peter Devey, Catherine Ardi, Alaina MacDonald, Oliver Dashwood, Adam Goldfinch and Mark Scholefield.
- Tickets can be bought online at toowoombarepertory theatre.com.au or at the theatre at 94 Margaret St, which is open from 11am to 3pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
