The Sydney Symphony back on the Coast for one night only
THE SYDNEY Symphony is back for the third time at The Art House this September, after sell-out performances in both 2018 and early 2019.
Songs of the North will showcase the symphony's finest young talent who have been through the rigorous one-year Fellowship Training Program.
For one night only, under the guidance and direction of Principal Symphony musicians, these 12 Fellows all under the age of 30 will play a program of classical music from the Northern Hemisphere.
This is a unique experience to see the next generation of symphony performers right here on the Central Coast.
Founded in 1932, The Sydney Symphony Orchestra has grown into one of Australia's leading cultural organisations. Its Fellowship Program provides the training and experience needed to secure full-time positions in professional orchestras.
The Sydney Symphony Artistic Director Roger Benedict said: "As we celebrate 17 years of Fellowship success, we are as determined as ever to make sure that the finest emerging professional musicians are given the best possible chance to succeed. Please come and join us!"
Songs of the North features foot-tapping Danish folk music for string quartet, a light-hearted serenade by Danish composer Carl Nielsen, and Eric Ewazen's mesmerising piece for solo marimba which evokes the shimmering beauty of the Northern Lights.
Hovhaness' fantasies for brass are lyrical and ethereal, while Tansman's miniatures are a perfect foil - dramatic and vivacious.
A cool north wind blows through Britten's early work for oboe and strings, while Berwald's melodious septet brings a touch of fireside warmth to the conclusion of the concert.
An Art House representative said it was a thrill to host The Sydney Symphony once again to bring this world-class musical experience to the Central Coast.
The Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellowship is supported by the Australia Council for the Arts, Create NSW, and individual donors.
