THE National Disability Insurance Scheme has already been rolled out in New South Wales and is currently being introduced in some parts of Queensland, with the remainder of the state scheduled for the rollout from July 1.
The scheme - as the name suggests - is designed to assist people in the community who have a disability and associated needs.
But how do people with a disability know if they will be eligible for the scheme?
The NDIS website provides an access checklist to help people determine whether they meet some of the basis criteria for eligibility.
The provisions include:
The applicant must be either an Australian citizen or permanent resident or hold a protected special category visa.
They must be under the age of 65.
They must live in an area where the NDIS has been rolled out.
They must have requirements and the need for support because of their disability, either now or in the future.
The successful applicant would then be potentially entitled to various services, ranging from medical treatment to educational or vocational support.
This would of course depend upon the availability of those services during the different rollout timelines in different cities.
Obviously this could make things a lot easier for various members of our community.
It is important to look into the eligibility requirements if you, a friend or a family member are suffering from a disability.
