THE federal election results could take weeks to be finalise

THE federal election results could take weeks to be finalised, the Australian Electoral Commission has announced.

AEC boss Tom Rogers said it could take until August 8 for the results from the Senate count to be confirmed - about five weeks after the poll.

Mr Rogers told the ABC that counting House of Representatives ballots would take the same time as usual, but the Senate count would be drawn out because of the overhaul of Senate voting, and the fact twice as many seats were being contested in the double dissolution poll.
