Ten in 2018: Pilot week and Bachie in, The Biggest Loser out

AFTER pulling off one of the biggest talent poaches in recent memory, Channel 10 has unveiled its major programs for next year.

As its acquisition by US network CBS reaches its final stages, Ten will still look and feel familiar to viewers with reality TV favourites including MasterChef, The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and Australian Survivor all returning in 2018.

"CBS is a global entertainment giant, a mass media company that is the most-watched television network in the US, with one of the world's largest libraries of entertainment content," Network Ten Chief Executive Officer Paul Anderson said.

"Making and acquiring great content is their mission, and it is our mission as well. Broadcasting that great content across multiple platforms with leading edge technology in an ever-changing environment is crucial and what better way for us to take on that challenge than by being part of the global media powerhouse that is CBS."

Both MasterChef and The Project, which former Today show co-host Lisa Wilkinson joins in the new year, will celebrate their 10-year anniversaries.

New shows already announced include Russell Coight's All Aussie Adventures, Bachelor in Paradise and Hughsey, We Have A Problem.

At the star-studded Upfronts event in Sydney tonight, Ten revealed the first crop of singles who will appear on Bachelor in Paradise.

Bachelor villains Keira McGuire and Laurina Fleure, Bachelorette alumni Michael Turnbull and Davey Lloyd and more recent viewer favourites Tara Pavlovic and Apollo Jackson (both of whom finished second runner-up in their respective 2017 seasons) will all assemble on a tropical island for the spin-off.

That puts some rumours to bed, but there are still plenty more cast members yet to be announced.

Another new addition in mid-2018 is a special "pilot week". For the first time on Australian television, several pilots of domestic shows across a number of content genres will air in one week.

According to Ten, the initiative represents a substantial investment in new local production.

Other new shows coming to the network next year include Blind Date, the Aussie comedy Street Smart, the drama series Playing for Keeps, the doco series The Secret Life of Four Year Olds and the comedy series How To Stay Married.

Ten will also air the new American dramas SEAL Team, Instinct and 9JKL.

Reality weight-loss series The Biggest Loser, which was axed from primetime last year after an unsuccessful revamp, will not return. There was also no news about revived Aussie drama Offspring.

Viewer favourites Family Feud, Have You Been Paying Attention, Gogglebox Australia, The Living Room, Shark Tank, Bondi Rescue and long-running soap Neighbours have all been renewed.

After a successful second season, Australian Survivor will change tack in 2018 with a Champions v Contenders series pitting champions from fields such as sport, entertainment and public life against everyday Australians.

In the digital space, Ten will launch a new standalone website called ten daily. The mobile-optimised website will feature short-form video content and offer premium and exclusive entertainment, lifestyle, opinion news and sport content.
