Sunshine Coast cooks to do battle for Masterchef crown

GOOD mates Matt Sinclair and Elena Duggan have come full circle on MasterChef.

The Noosa cooks met during auditions for the reality cooking show's eighth season and are now the final two contestants standing in the grand final.

"Matt and I sat on the same table at the auditions on the very first day in Melbourne," Ms Duggan told the Daily.

"He was one of the first people I spoke to, and to see him standing there with me at the end is just so awesome."

Tonight's final is expected to be a close race between 32-year-old Duggan, a high school teacher arts teacher who was born in Cooroy, and 27-year-old Sinclair, a coffee roaster who followed his parents to Noosa five years ago and met his wife Jess while working at Bistro C.

"People have been saying to me 'we really love you both and we don't mind who wins'. I think that's awesome that viewers are happy for either of us," she said.

"We've got a great friendship and camaraderie, and a huge respect for each other. It would be awesome to work with Matt in the future on various projects."

Mr Sinclair revealed the night before filming the show's marathon two-hour grand final he and Ms Duggan relaxed with the help of another TV show.

"It was super low-key. We caught up on Game of Thrones and chilled out," he said. "There was also a bit of reflection and talking about how insane the whole ride was.

"This is a pretty huge milestone in both of our lives and something we will share forever. To go through that together as mates is a bonus."

Mr Sinclair said he was running on pure adrenaline in the grand final cook after months of filming for the show.

"You got to resign yourself to the fact that it's going to be a monster," he said.

"All you can do is play that cook on its merits and use everything you've learned to date to try to get through it alive."

Both rising food stars plans to undertake more work experience after the show before pursuing their long-term goals.

Ms Duggan wants to grown produce on her own property where she'll run cooking classes focusing on seasonal flavours while Mr Sinclair plans to run his own food truck called 10 Piece Cutlery.

The MasterChef grand final airs tonight at 7.30pm on Channel 10.
