Sunny start tipped for Anzac Day

COOL but dry conditions should face Anzac Day Dawn Services on the Sunshine Coast tomorrow.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Chris Joseph said while an upper level trough continued to bring the possibility of showers and even afternoon or evening thunderstorm today's bright and sunny start would be replicated for the thousands who would turn out before dawn for services across the region.

He said there was still a very small chance of storms on Thursday and Friday with the weekend looking pretty good for sunny skies but with the daytime maximum expected temperature of 25C on Saturday and Sunday, one degree below the April average of 26C.

Overnight minimum temperatures were down to 15C overnight into Tuesday, also one below the April average.

Mr Joseph said Monday brought only one storm cell to the southeast corner of the state with rain falling on Brisbane's northern suburbs.

"The weekend's looking pretty good," he said. "And it looks like a good run for boaties."

Expect a 27C maximum on the coastal strip today with the chance of a shower in the afternoon and evening and the possibility of a thunderstorm.

Winds that were light early would increase for the east, southeast at 15-20km/h before dropping out later in the day.

Anzac Day should also hit a 27C maximum with the slight chance of rain and light winds early increasing to 15-20km/h from the east before fading in the later afternoon.

Thursday should be mostly sunny with the slight chance of rain and a thunderstorm in the hinterland in the afternoon. Winds would be light early then increase to 25km/h from the south before becoming light late in the day. The daytime maximum temperature should hit a two-above-average 28C.

Expect Friday to bring similar conditions but with a slightly cooler 27C maximum.

Saturday would be sunny but a coolish 25C daytime maximum, a slight chance of rain and southerly winds to 20km/h shifting south east through the day.

The overnight minimum temperature into Sunday would drop to 16C ahead of a 25C maximum temperature on a day which should bring just a slight chance of rain and light winds.
