Summer fun at Lord Howe Island festival

THE stunning backdrop of rugged high hills swept by the winds from the pristine blue ocean will be the backdrop to the inaugural Summer Festival of Lord Howe Island on from January 27 to February 2, 2019.

Live music, guided adventure activities, adventure races, yoga classes, cooking classes, wine tastings, long picnic lunches and amazing dinners are all on the program.

Multiple ARIA award winner Jeff Lang, described by Rolling Stone Magazine as "Australia's best roots-music musician", will give intimate evening performances. There will be yoga classes with yoga-guru to the stars Charlotte Dodson.  Tom Kime will host cooking classes and wine tastings. And for the more active, the inaugural Three Peaks Adventure Race.

The race, which will test the endurance, strength and navigation skills of the competitors is open all ages and most levels of fitness. It will use a handicap system to ensure a close contest and entertaining finish. Competitors in the Three Peaks Adventure Race will cover 15km over 750 vertical meters. Most of the route will be along single tracks and spectacular volcanic ridges. The winner will be invited back to Pinetrees Lodge, free-of-charge and with a friend, to defend their title in 2020.

Visitors can also participate in the Pinetrees Pentathlon. It's a team relay event that tests intellect, speed, endurance, skill and teamwork. The inaugural PP in 2018 was one of our funniest days of the year, but don't let the fancy dress fool you - the competition was very serious.

Director of Pinetrees Lodge, Luke Hanson, says, "imagine everything that Lord Howe Island is celebrated for, in perfect summer weather, with a great Australian musician, and you'll understand just how good our Summer Festival will be".

After festival visitors have enjoyed a day exploring the island's pristine World Heritage beaches, mountains, forests and coral reef, dusk drinks and music beckon. "I've seen Jeff Lang play at big music festivals and at the Sydney Opera House, but I never thought I'd see him play at sunset on the Pinetrees Boatshed deck," Mr Hanon says. "It's literally a dream come true".

The six-night packages for the Summer Festival start from $2580 per person, twin share in a Palm Room at Pinetrees Lodge. All packages include breakfasts, lunches, afternoon teas and three-course dinners, plus Tom Kime's five-course Festival Dinner. The Jeff Lange performances, yoga classes and cooking classes are free-of-charge for Pinetrees guests.
