Students paint pictures with words

YOUR STORY: They say a picture paints a thousand words, but what if you don't have a picture and all you have are words?

Students at Victoria Park State School are learning to use their five senses to write descriptive paragraphs that help to paint a picture in the reader's mind.

This week, they had fun describing a messy bedroom.

Here goes...

"The odour coming from that room was absolutely horrible. I ventured in, stopping dead in the doorway, immediately wrinkling up my nose. There were his muddy football boots on the white sheets of his unmade bed. Mum's going to love this!" Leo

"I could immediately taste the stench when I took that first step inside. I could not have imagined it in a million years if I tried. Mouldy cheese was still in the bin, as it was a week ago, and Lego was scattered across the floor. Worst of all, a maggot crawled out of the bin and onto the floor in front of me. Dad's not going to be too impressed." Reynan

"The putrid smell coming from my brother's bedroom was almost as bad as the local public toilets. Clothes hung from the open drawers and his bed cover was strewn on the floor. Mud-covered soccer boots had left grass and dirt all over the carpet. Looks like Mum's vacuum is going to get a workout!" Imogen
