Students give school gift of culture

TWO former Kingaroy State School students recently returned to see the final result from their handiwork.

The school's 2018 alumni, Isabella Appeldorn and Kalan Amy, returned to look over the completion of the Japanese mural and garden area of the school.

The mural and garden area was the brainchild of their Japanese teacher, Danielle Carige.

The school's new addition was designed to heighten the presence of Japanese language and culture in the school, as well as create a place of calm in the heart of the school.

Under Mrs Carige's guidance, Isabella and Kalan helped design and paint the mural every Thursday afternoon after school during Term 4 last year.

The Japanese garden only came to fruition during early 2019 thanks to the efforts of Mrs Carige and her husband, Stephen.

Both students were chosen based on their achievement and creativity during Japanese lessons in Term 3.

The Japanese mural and garden area will be appreciated by staff and students for many years to come.
