Streep's attack on bullying deserves applause

MERYL Streep has successfully, and with great dignity, brought bullying to the attention of the world.

Added to the personal, psychological and social impact of bullying, there is the added devastating neurophysiological impact of bullying.

Bullying leads to the fight-or-flight response; the fight-or-flight response leads to the release of stress chemicals; the release of stress chemicals reduces prefrontal cortex efficiency; and prefrontal cortex inefficiency results in impaired thinking, impaired communication abilities and impaired memory potential.

When bullying takes place, physiological, psychological and social damage is the result.
