Splendorous weekend ahead
THIS weekend’s Splendour in the Grass festival in Woodford will be anything but relaxing for the team at Toowoomba’s PhatBurgers.
The 11 members of the PhatBurgers stall will be cooking up an estimated 10,000 burgers to more than 30,000 festival goers over the weekend.
Crew member Dan Jeffries said he knew exactly what to expect after working at several music festivals but many other crew members had no idea what they were in for.
"A lot of people say ‘you’re so lucky to be able to work at Splendour’ but it’s a lot of hard work," Mr Jeffries said.
"It’s so hectic there. We’re gonna get smashed."
Fellow crew member Erica Hediger said 14 hour days were not out of the ordinary for Splendour workers.
"I’m expecting it to be hectic and I’m expecting a lot of sweaty people," she said.
PhatBurgers owner Alan Wynn said this was the first year PhatBurgers have been able to set up a stall at Splendour in the Grass and it took a lot of hard work to score the gig.
"There were more than 400 applicants, but only so much space on the Splendour grounds," Mr Wynn said.
Members of Toowoomba’s new Grill’d restaurant will also be selling burgers at the festival, continuing the Toowoomba burger rivalry at Woodford.
Headline acts at this year’s Splendour in the Grass festival include Coldplay, Kanye West, Jane’s Addiction, Pulp and The Hives.
