'Spider lightning' puts on spectacular show in SA

SOUTH Australian residents were treated to a spectacular show of Mother Nature's force with stunning footage emerging of "spider lightning" crawling across the sky earlier this week.

Crowds watched on in awe as a storm raged over the beach town of Glenelg with the electrical discharge the true star of the show.

In a video posted to YouTube, the lightning bursts seemingly from the horizon with finger-like tendrils spreading across the thick, dark clouds.

The slow-motion replay of one of the strikes perfectly captures the beauty and raw power of the event.
