Speeding sedan clocked at 48km/h over speed limit

A SEDAN was clocked on Wednesday going 48kmh over the speed limit along the Bruce Hwy at Mt Ossa, north of Mackay.

The driver was doing 148kmh in a 100kmh zone on day eight of Queensland Police's road safety campaign.

It was one of the worst speed infringements in the central police region, which stretches north of Mackay, out west to Springsure and south to the Sunshine Coast, in the 24 hours up until midnight on December 30.

At Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast, police caught a drunk driver with a blood alcohol level of 0.177%.

The driver was one of 46 motorists caught over the limit, from more than 10,000 random breath tests statewide.

Police said 13 vehicles in the central region were impounded.

The Christmas road safety campaign started on December 23 and will finish on January 3. - APN NEWSDESK
