THE air crackles with the mighty roar of engines while the ground tingles with the sense of anticipation.

A fight overhead ensues as combatants dip, swerve, spin and dive.

But victory on this day will not go to just one audacious aviator, but to every Australian that climbed into the cockpit and flew into battle.

The Australian Vintage Aviation Society (TAVAS) Great War Flying Display 2018 is a thrilling tribute to all 'Knights of the Skies', showcasing the only collection of flying Great War aircraft types in Australia plus more from World War 2, Korea, Vietnam and modern-day fighter jets.

The event includes:

  • Australia's only collection of accurate, flying WW1 replicas and reproductions
  • Warbirds from WW2 to Vietnam
  • Modern Australian Defence Force aircraft
  • Numerous other antique and modern aircraft
  • Free WW1 fighter flight simulator experience
  • Joy flights, static displays, vehicles and re-enactors
  • Have your photo taken in an ex jet fighter cockpit
  • A great choice of food and drink vendors plus a FREE water refill station and free car parking on the airfield.

A stirring salute to the air force, the event will also highlight the centenary of Australian military airmen and their involvement in every major conflict over the last 100 years.

A not for profit organisation, TAVAS exists to raise awareness of the significant part Australians played in the first air war and how that developed our aviation industry following its conclusion.

The organisation's aim is to educate all Australians of the major impact of the early flying machines and the people who flew them, and how they helped create the modern aviation industry.

TAVAS Great War Flying Display 2018 will be held on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22 at the Caboolture Airfield (YCAB), Aerodrome Road, Caboolture.
