WATCH: Snake catcher's "very close call" with eastern brown

A LOCKYER Valley snake catcher has had not one but two close calls while trying to catch eastern browns this week.

Andrew Smedley's run in with the deadly reptiles happened during a call out to a property at Kalbar.

The job was made all the more difficult as there was a male and female in close proximity to each other.

Bagging the bigger male proved routine.

But as Andrew was attempting to wrangle the female, she lunged.

On his Facebook page Andrew's Snake Removal, he wrote: "I bagged the first one okay, but the female was a handful. As I went to pick the bag up it whizzed past my neck.

"A very close call if ever I've had one."

But that wasn't the end of the escapade.

"Then she decided to jump back out of the bag and make a mad dash towards the bush. Luckily I managed to grab it and bag it."

"It was a bloody handful.

"I'll be getting myself a bigger bag this week, lol.

"In this line of work there's always going to be close calls, just my lucky day today."
