READERS DISCUSS: Reasons for banning celebrities from Oz
THE announcement by the Federal Government of its intention to ban rapper Chris Brown from entering Australia due to his domestic violence conviction has been applauded by many people.
We asked readers via Facebook: Do you think there are more reasons why the government should ban celebrities from entering the country?
Steve Hendra - Yes I think Justin Bieber should be banned from entering Australia due to his crimes against music.
Debbie Bryant - Sitting here laughing and nodding my head.
Neil North - Well said sir.
Maria Finlay-Frenken - not only celebrities, but anyone who has had a serious conviction against their name.
Reuben Roberts - Chris Brown believes he has extenuating circumstances. 1. He said sorry to Rihanna an she forgave him. 2. He can sing. None of the above work for me. The government needs to stick to their guns on this in light of the 100 million they are handing out to fight domestic violence. He has no place here especially after his tirade of comments against Australia last week.
Matt King - Not my style of music but a valid point would be the tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars of economy he would bring to each city/show?
Reuben Roberts - And at what cost does one domestic violence case come at, emotionally, psychologically and productively through the cycles and generations of one family that lives through it. I reckon two generations minimum and at a lot more of a cost than concert would gross for him.
