VIDEO: Seniors Surf Life Saving Series - Alex Surf Club

BUHK Family Park is situated beside Alexandra Headland Surf Life Saving Club and is named after the family of William Buhk who founded the club with 32 other men from Woombye in 1924.

Affectionately known as 'Father' Bill Buhk, he was strongly involved in fundraising for the club and enlisted the Wombye Hotel to help with his fundraising efforts.

Bill's son, known as 'Young' Bill Buhk and daughter-in-law, Lorraine Buhk, followed in his footsteps with managing the club. Lorraine is still involved with the club today, helping out where she can.

Lorraine currently manages what she describes as a perpetual mountain of lost property and says she would be lost herself without the Alex Beach Surf Club.

"Everyone knows Lorraine, but Lorraine doesn't know everyone who says hello to Lorraine," she said.
