OUR SAY: Robot seals comfort for the elderly

EDITORIAL: No one likes to think about it, but inevitably God willing, one will grow old.

Coupled with this in a lot of instances comes a whole new list of challenges.

For some their lifestyle can be most rewarding, but unfortunately for others various illnesses can severely impact on their quality of life.

Numerous facilities have sprung up across the Darling Downs offering different levels of care for the elderly ranging from those living in an independent-style environment to those like Freedom Aged Care where a higher level of assistance is offered.

The management of this facility is to be congratulated for their foresight in seeking out beneficial aides that will enhance the lives of its residents and most importantly their safety.

Such is the case with Francis, the Japanese paro-therapeutic baby seal robot that Freedom is trialling to help sustain their residents' health and well-being.

Even though this facility encourages its residents to bring their pets, sadly some are unable to look after them, but hopefully an alternative like Francis may be just what the doctor ordered to help add some enjoyment to their every-day routine.

Our region offers a variety of top-shelf facilities if the need arises and that in itself is an extremely comforting thought.
