Residents want their post office to stay open

REGULAR users of the Springfield Post Office don't want it to be closed and relocated to Orion Town Centre.

The QT spoke to three users of the iconic post office at Springfield Fair Shopping Centre who are not keen to see any downgrade of service.

The post office at Springfield Fair Shopping Centre will close in August with the post office and post office boxes relocated to a new post office at Orion Town Centre at Springfield Central.

Australia Post has told the QT it would look to "establish a postal presence within an existing business at Springfield Fair"

"I don't want this post office to close," Ron Schwarten said.

"It has got easy access car parking.

"I know they want one at Springfield Orion but the car park is not as accessible as this one which is easier access for my mother who is very old.

Ian Dray said he also wanted the post office to stay open and that the population growth demanded it

"This is a growing area," he said.

"This area should be able to service two of them."

Annie Haydon hailed the "great books, CDs, puzzles for kids and last minute gift ideas" that the Springfield Post Office has.

"They also stock all my printer needs," she said.
