UPDATE 8.40PM: EMERGENCY services were called to the 4wd and caravan incident after a patron at the Cri reportedly heard a huge splash and looked up to see the two vehicles going into the river.
UPDATE 8.35PM: Police are calling in search and rescue crews to conduct a more extensive search of the river and river bank.
UPDATE 8.30PM: Morning Bulletin reporter Frazer Pearce is at the scene of the incident and has spoken to emergency services.
A police spokeswoman said Queensland Fire and Emergency Services have searched both vehicles and no one has been found in the vehicles.
"At this point no one has been located in the vehicles," she said.
"It appears to have rolled right down here from Reaney St. It was only reported in the last 20 minutes."
Reports indicate the 4WD is registered to an Armidale NSW address while the caravan is registered to a Woolongong NSW address.
It is believed emergency services will leave the vehicles in the river overnight and salvage them in better light tomorrow.
UPDATE 8.15PM: FURTHER reports from the scene indicate the car did not come off the side of the bridge as initially thought by emergency services.
The vehicles appear to have rolled or were pushed into the river from Reaney St.
Speculation from the scene is that the vehicles are stolen and have been dumped.
No one is in the vehicles.
UPDATE 8PM: A REPORTER at the scene of the incident has confirmed a 4WD and caravan are in the Fitzroy River, near the Reaney St boat ramp.
Police, ambulance and fire crews are on scene and an initial search of the NSW registered vehicle has found no occupants.
The search is continuing.
BREAKING 7.55PM: EMERGENCY services are rushing to Fitzroy River (old) bridge following reports a car has driven through the rails and may be in the water.
Initial reports suggest the car may have gone off the bridge and may be near the Reaney St boat ramp.
More to come.
