Recognising those who work for the Brisbane community

Citizen of the Year Award: Marjorie McNamara (Sandgate). In recognition of Marjorie's ongoing and extensive voluntary work in the Brisbane community, which has spanned more than 30 years.

Senior Citizen of the Year Award: Kenneth (Ken) Dixon (Boondall). In recognition of Ken's commitment to the Sandgate community and the game of cricket through his voluntary work at Sandgate-Redcliffe District Cricket Club.

Young Citizen of the Year Award: Jessica Hickey (Bracken Ridge). In recognition of Jessica's dedication to her community via volunteer work with Brisbane's homeless through the Ecumenical Coffee Brigade and her contribution to local community musical groups and outreach programs.

Community Event of the Year Award: Mt Gravatt Show. The yearly tradition has marked its 100th milestone. The show has been held on the same site almost continuously since 1915 and offers a friendly community event that features fireworks, rides, entertainment, animals, food and horticultural pavilions.

Australia Day Sports Award: David Hodge (Moorooka). In recognition of David's resourcefulness and commitment in developing not-for-profit organisation Return Serve, a community-based tennis program for people of all abilities and backgrounds, bringing the community together.

Corporate Citizen of the Year Award: Willims Motor Group (Fortitude Valley). In recognition of the group's generous assistance by supporting multiple organisations and local causes, including more than $270,000 in donations and fundraising in the last 12 months alone.

Australia Day Cultural/Arts Award: Denis Madigan (Manly West). Known as the "heart and soul" of the Kelvin Grove Wind Orchestra (KGWO), Denis has been the group's president for almost 20 years - the entirety of the orchestra's lifespan.

Lord Mayor's Green Heart Award - Individual: Margaret Buchanan (Runcorn). In recognition of Margaret's involvement and devotion as a foundation member of the Brandon Road Bushcare Group, part of Brisbane City Council's Habitat Brisbane program.

Lord Mayor's Green Heart Award - Organisation: Mt Gravatt Environment Group (Wishart Ward). In recognition of the group's dedication to the Mt Gravatt area which has seen the rehabilitation of Fox Gully into a vibrant wildlife corridor, and has also enabled the implementation of many flora and fauna projects within the local community.

Australia Day Achievement Awards: Christine Bunn (Everton Park); Alan Burchill (Mansfield), Julia Collins (Hamilton); Wendy Drysdale (Tarragindi); Debra Fallon and Jennifer Egan (New Farm); Rachel Griffiths (Pullenvale); John and Keryn Henderson (Stafford Heights); Una Hillier (Ashgrove); Belinda Karnaghan (Mount Ommaney); Grant Richards (Wynnum); Ben Ryan (Virginia); Staccato Strings (Brisbane City); Dulcima Wilkie (Tingalpa); Lan-Chih (Dana) Yu (Calamvale).
