READER'S VIEW: Political parties have no long term vision
I WISH to advise I and a large number of electors are absolutely disgusted at the behaviour of politicians from all the major parties whose main concern is their political survival and self-interest, showing little or no concern for the electorate or this great country of ours which should be almost self-supporting.
No one from the LNP, ALP or Greens shows little or any sign of strong leadership or long-term vision of what this country could be.
Why do politicians receive special treatment when found out that they have misused their entitlements, our latest offender of course being Ms Bishop?
The only regret she appeared to show was the fact that she was found out. Such misuse of taxpayers' money must surely be or should be a criminal offence.
If I had misappropriated any of my employer's funds I would have expected to attend court to face the appropriate charges. Why are politicians treated differently as the people are their employer and they should not be allowed to just say sorry and repay the money?
We are desperately in need of a political party that will put the people and country ahead of any self-interest, someone that would introduce such things as stopping payment and perks to ex-Prime Ministers. After all, they have either retired or been voted out of office and no longer employed by the people.
Review all parliamentary entitlements and ensure they are in accordance with public expectations and are strictly adhered to.
Stop putting our land into foreign ownership, particularly our farming areas.
Stop importing produce which our farmers, said to be among the most efficient in the world, can produce.
Stop mining coal seam gas as there is no guarantee that the water table would not be adversely affected.
What would this country be like without the Great Artesian Basin? It is too late after the damage has been done.
We could bring back national service for our young people which would help a lot of them to get off the street, give them organising skills and would be a trained workforce in times of national disasters.
Re-establish our manufacturing industries as we have ample coal, iron ore and other minerals and it does not make sense to export the raw materials and then pay to import the manufactured articles.
Unfortunately, under the present system, one of the major parties wins government but nothing changes and won't do until the people unite to implement change.
Introduce a debit tax so everyone, including those multinational companies that shift their profits offshore, pays their fair share of tax.
Re-introduce the people's bank to fund infrastructure as used by previous governments.
We need a government that will not bow to minority groups, world orders, do-gooders and major conglomerates.
Review all immigration until we get our own people looked after.
Stop free trade agreements whereby foreign countries are allowed to bring in their own workers.
Foreign aid to be by the way of surplus goods and service as there is no control over how monetary donations are accounted for and distributed. I would be extremely surprised if the needy receive any great benefit.
