READER'S VIEW: Aussies will rue the day we become a republic

HAVING read Kerri-Anne Mesner's editorial column (TMB September 15), I sense a bit of plagiarism as some of the contents in some of her editorial paragraphs are almost identical to the contents and my thoughts in a Letter to the editor (LTE) that I sent in about the Abbott/Turnbull fiasco, which has not yet been printed.

Yes, we do need political change in this country and I stated these changes in my LTE. Kerri-Anne, in your editorial you called for this country to become a republic.

Having witnessed some of the pitfalls that other world republics have suffered and are still suffering over the years, Australians will rue the day Australia becomes a republic and to do so will not be in the interest or benefit of the people but will benefit foreign entities hell bent on world domination with their eyes firmly fixed on this country.

There is an old saying "If it ain't broke, don't try and fix it".

Response from Kerri-Anne Mesner:

Norm, I assure you there was no plagiarism of your LTE about the Abbott/Turnbull fiasco. Considering I suggested it was time the Australian political system needs changing as it is obviously not working and you claim "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", our minds are obviously thinking different things. Not all republic countries have had problems. Switzerland's system is actually a democratic republic system.
