READERS DISCUSS: tough sentencing of juvenile offender

THE Court of Appeal has judged that a magistrate, who believes a 13-year-old girl who broke the law is old enough to know right from wrong, did not properly take the girl's age into account when sentencing the teenager for damaging six cars at a sale yard.

Here's what our online readers had to say.

Valarie Hawkins - Of course a 13 yr old is old enough ! sometimes because of their upbringing ( or lack of it ) they dont have a good example of right/wrong

Tasha Hay - That's the problem with kids today. They use the excuse of age or poor upbringing to get away with whatever they like. Start making parents accountable aswell if the home life is that bad!

Curly Wurly - She knew what she was doing!! NOT harsh at all.. You do the crime you do the time!!

Diane Cary - All magistrates need to follow suit

Cheryl Erickson Karaban - No, wasn't harsh enough. Some of these young people need to realise there are consequences for actions, behave and nothing happens. Simple!!!
