READERS DISCUSS: their views on marriage equality
WE ASKED our Facebook readers if they supported marriage equality?
Matthew Randy Butternubs Vesey: Why stop at gay marriage everyone has the right to marry when polygamy is legal as well there will be equality until then it's still not equal.
Phil Twiner: "Marriage equality" seems an unclear and misleading term. Why not just call it "gay marriage rights", and avoid the obfuscation?
Kieran Powell: As long as there are baby boomers they will be no gay marriage in Australia. They are the biggest generation, the most influential generation politically speaking, and the majority despise anything that is not 1960's standard. Gay marriage is one of these things.
David Couper: Hold a referendum like Ireland. Let the population decide, not the politicians. On this issue the politicians can best be described as (to quote a previous PM) "unrepresentative swill".
Naomi Turnley: Yes! Everyone in love has the right to be married. Australia is so behind and messed up and too stupid to do the right thing. Makes me sad to be an Aussie.
AntoinetteBrian Nothdurft: I think you should marry whoever you fall in love with. Love is love.
Melody Gee: For it. A lot of people think that they just want to get married and that it will ruin the whole meaning of 'marriage'. It is so much more than that. They have every right to marry the person they love, regardless of gender.
Kristine Rowe: every person who wants to marry the person they love should be allowed to...it is just wrong.
Karen Ricks: in denying the lgbt the right to be legally married, they are being robbed of the legal rights that heterosexual couples are entitled to. if their partner of 20 years dies suddenly, they aren't even recognised as a defacto and can lose everything to the immediate family.
Valarie Hawkins: Marriage is NOT just all about LOVE , if that was the case then why cant we marry our pets ? we love our pets dont we ?
Luke Roberts: i usually couldnt give a rats abouts gays and what they do unless its in my face...so why is it always in my face, just get it outa my face.
