READERS DISCUSS: New Queensland domestic violence laws

LEGISLATION to be introduced to Parliament this week will increase maximum penalties for first-time breaches of DVOs to three years' jail and subsequent breaches to up to five years' jail.

We asked readers via Facebook: What do you think?

Peter Thomson: I think maybe if the courts where actually a reflection of what society expects on existing laws. We wouldn't need new ones. But then what would a parliament full of lawyers do then.

Debbie Bryant: I always speak up because I am sure that there are a lot of men falsely accused.

Karyn Battersby: That's awesome. Can we also get the premier to amend her language and use more inclusive terms so that she's not adding to the social dialogue that there is only one type of victim please.

Glenda Annett: Agree with minimum sentence too, way past time for the law to get tough. Makes me so angry.
