READERS DISCUSS: What to do with 'retired' buses in CQ

CQ business Young's Bus Service is asking for suggestions on what to do with their retired buses.

Read the story here: Retired buses could become cafes, classrooms

Some suggestions so far have been to convert the buses into cafes, open air restaurants, and even classrooms.

What do you think Young's should do with the buses?

  • Matt Barber - Donate to the local schools. None of the state high schools have a bus to transport kids around and chartering buses is a huge expense.
  • Maryann Molloy -time is up cant do that and to d a new life on a bus is expensive
  • Jason Roberts - If u have any small ones, sell em to anyone looking to convert buses into motorhomes.
  • Carmel Ward - Overseas countries ! Look after all the homeless and school children's sporting clubs first , kit them out as hair saloon and first aid buses for anyone that can not make it to the Drs .showers for street people maybe .
  • Cally Ware - Why not put them I'm certain areas and let homeless people live in them
  • Aleecea Jade Williams - Was just thinking that. Also make it so they can also heat food inside
  • Sarah Anne Schulz - If one is still drivable and in good condition the little ten pin bowling league needs a bus to travel to comps if they would like to donate one
  • Cin Dee - These buses don't run anymore... So yer maybe hair salon or beach side ice cream pallor
  • Wendy Yewdale - Definitely kitted out as emergency housing for homeless
  • Pardis Hudson - Shelter the homeless.
  • Leigh Close - Artificial reef?
  • Margaret Balchin - Convert them into home for the homeless
  • Joanne Coulter - Mobile movie or band stage...sides come down for the stage and have budding musicians...drama students travel out west.
  • Darryl Hutchinson - sell them to the mining companies to get there workers out to there camps
  • Naomi Liersch - convert them into mobile homes donate half for the homeless and sell the other half and use the money for charity organisations
  • Laura Tingle - In the uk, they used to convert them into "houses" that had exposed wiring or a pot with the handle hanging over the edge of the stove etc. And drive them to schools to teach kids about fire safety and how to spot hazards.
  • AntoinetteBrian Nothdurft - Donate them to 'the big red kidney bus' through kidney health Australia. Then patients on dialysis can go holidays and meet up at the bus for their dialysis treatment. It's a wonderful initiative and Qld doesn't have one yet.
  • Bee Kay - Emergency housing.
  • Clive Rand - Give me a job and I will buy one.
  • Bel Lindel - Pop up restaraunts ! Down the beach or festival's around CQ
  • Rhana Dee Govaars - Maybe rotary clubs could send them overseas to countries that need them
  • Angela George - Could do a Mobile library
  • DiPaul Villiers - Cafe/diner
