Here are what readers had to say:

On website:

Festa - Allenstown - Feeling sorry for the owners of the puppy having to go thru this. Things are getting out of hand there are way to many vicious dogs in rocky. The council needs to get involved and legislate against certain breeds before it is too late.
logicfail - Rockhampton - Feel sorry for the owners of the dog, but.
How the hell does this happen?
How do 2 dogs manage to get access to the poodle?
What yard didn't have adequate fencing? Did the rottweilers jump the existing fence? Did the 8 month old poodle stray too close to the fence and get pulled through it?
If the neighbours dogs didn't leave their own yard, as terrible as it is, it's a valuable lesson learned. If they indeed left their yard than the neighbours should be facing the consequences
mehere - Central Queensland - whether they left their yard or not, they are still dangerous. it says the puppy was pulled through the fence, so you are suggesting everyone should avoid the fence around the yard? small children should expect to be pulled through and killed if they stray too close? there is no excuse or reason here, just bad dogs that should be put down

On Facebook:

Chantal Booth - If the poodle was in its own yard then the other dog should be euthanised before a child is next!
Valarie Hawkins - the same thing happened to me , our little dog was mauled by the 2 dogs next door ( who are locked up nearly all day because they are savage dogs ) the council ( livingstone ) did nothing ! BUT in saying that my dog did go into their yard and was killed in their yard , i guess make sure your dog can never get out , our fence was not a good fence
Jacqui Frazer - The Poodle was in her own yard the two big dogs pulled her through the fence
Adam Cook - dragged in to the neighbours yard, give me a break. don't blame the neighbour when you get a small dog and it get's through the current fence built for large dogs.
Carolyn Ponicke - I know the owners of the said "viscous" dogs, and the dogs themselves. I have never found them to be viscous. The report said "authorities believe" that the attacked dog "could have been " sniffing near the fence. No one actually saw what happened till the "witness" saw the little dog in the big dog's mouth, so how do you come to the conclusion that these dogs pulled the little dog into their yard. The owners of the large dogs are animal lovers and no one likes to hear of this thing happening, and are quite distraught too. It's a very sad and upsetting situation for everybody concerned.
Lyn Portch - Well then i suppose now they know what they can do they should probably euthanase those dogs as id be in total shock, horror, and feel a certain amount of responsibility. Dangerous to give them another chance
Carolyn Ponicke - Sorry Lyn but don't agree.
Lyn Portch - Maybe if it was yr animal attacked and you were not friends with the people involved yr opinion would be different
