READERS DISCUSS: Justice system treatment of juveniles

YESTERDAY'S edition of The Morning Bulletin featured an article about Central Region police union representative Bill Feldman's (pictured) attack on the justice system for not being tough enough on juvenile offenders.

We asked our online readers for their thoughts on the issue.

David Schumacher: The police can do and say what they like, the fact is the courts will never change, the young ones will always get away and they know this.

Danny Boyce: Bring back the cane/strap at primary school and it may start teaching kids a bit of respect for others stopping some of them getting in trouble with the law when they are older.

Keith Kelley: I think they are told not to incarcerate them because it's too costly. Anyway it;s just treating the symptom and not the cause. Most of these juveniles just need help and direction.

Stretch Devine: Judges should be elected by the public.

Gloria Carige: The judiciary are out of touch with community expectations.
