READERS DISCUSS: Fix parking problems before painting lines
PARKING woes at the under-construction Sunshine Coast Public University Hospital have motorists seeing red.
Sunshine Coast Council will install yellow line markings on each direction of the road south of the Sunshine Coast Public University Hospital, creating a no stopping zone to improve the stilted traffic flow.
The changes will come into effect from July 15, with both shoulders, currently a parking gold mine for tradies, set to be ruled out of bounds and policed by council staff.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: YELLOW LINES COMING: COUNCIL CRACKS DOWN ON KAWANA PARKING
Councillor Peter Cox said the state-controlled road, which carries numerous trucks, was not designed to accommodate parking on the road's shoulders.
He said the yellow line changes were a matter of road safety.
"Increased construction activity at the hospital site has seen tradespeople parking on the busy road's cycleway," Cr Cox said.
"This causes congestion and impacts on cyclists using the cycleway and drivers who are forced to drive closer to the dividing lines.
"With the number of construction staff at the public hospital expected to peak within the next few months, parking for workers will soon be made available on two levels of the main multi-storey carpark to help alleviate parking congestion."
But that's not how all our readers saw things.
Many commented on our Facebook page saying there was a huge need to look at the root of the parking problems, not enforce more changes which prohibit the little parking that is available.

Yellow lines are going to be painted on Kawana Way to stop people parking on the shoulders of the road: http://ow.ly/PsP1j Are there any other Coast roads needing yellow lines installed?

Kylie Burridge: Well clearly there is an underlying problem that more parking is needed! Let's actually fix the 'problem'!
Con Comino: So there's not enough employment on the Coast as it is.People with jobs need somewhere to park their cars but rights of cyclists have priority. Are we living is some kind of alternative universe?
Sharon Carlyle: So where is everyone going to park. You can't rely on public transport. Some of those cars look like tradies car. What you expect them to lug their gear a mile up the road? And when the hospital is finished and frequented by sick ppl, where are they going park? There won't be enough on hospital grounds. Look at Nambour's parking problems and be proactive.
Emma Rodda: I drive on that road several times per day and it doesn't bother me at all. I don't need to go slower than the speed limit or veer into the other lanes. Why not let them park on the grass across the road until building is finished, or until building on that side commences? Is that really going to affect anyone? I'm sure the people whinging on here will appreciate and use the new hospital when it is built.
Haylee Wells: The Sunshine Coast doesn't need more yellow lines, it needs more parking. How hard is that to understand? Instead of constantly building all of these new places how about we help the community by making more carparks for areas like the hospitals and the Sunshine Plaza etc? Surely that would make more sense?
Al Vellacott: People driving past need to take more care and focus on the road . The people blowing up over them parking there, go a different way.
Tenash O'Connor: On the corner of Boundary Crescent in Marcoola next to the airport fence. People always park on the road right on the corner and block half the road to stare at planes. Very dangerous as its quite a blind corner and people have to merge onto the wrong side of the road to get around them!
Kylie Stroud: Parking is a joke around this area. I work in innovation drive down the road and cannot find a park near my work due to the workers/staff from hospital parking here because they have to pay to park at the hospital. They need somewhere to park.
